EMDR Therapy
When past experiences continue to feel present.

Sometimes difficult experiences don’t stay in the past. They show up in your body, your reactions, your relationships, or your sense of safety.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy that helps the nervous system process experiences that feel stuck.
What EMDR Can Help With
EMDR may be helpful if you are experiencing:
-
Trauma or complex trauma
-
Intrusive memories
-
Nightmares
-
Strong emotional reactions that feel out of proportion
-
Anxiety linked to specific events
-
Shame or negative beliefs about yourself
-
Ongoing distress connected to past experiences
You do not need to remember everything clearly for EMDR to be effective.
How EMDR Works
EMDR helps your brain and nervous system process experiences that were overwhelming at the time they happened.
Using guided bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping), we support your system in reprocessing memories so they feel less emotionally charged.
The goal is not to erase memory. It is to reduce the intensity and allow your system to integrate what happened.
Our Approach
At Transversality, EMDR is never rushed. We begin with preparation and stabilisation — building tools for regulation and safety before moving into processing.
We pay attention to:
-
Your pace
-
Your nervous system capacity
-
Cultural and relational context
-
Power dynamics and identity
-
Your current support systems
EMDR is integrated within a relational, trauma-informed framework. You remain in control throughout the process.

What to Expect

EMDR sessions are typically 75 minutes and available virtually across British Columbia.
The process includes:
-
Assessment and preparation
-
Identifying target memories or themes
-
Structured reprocessing
-
Integration and reflection
Not every session will involve active processing. Some sessions focus on grounding, skill-building, or stabilisation.

Is This a Good Fit?

EMDR may be a good fit if:
-
You feel ready to work with past experiences
-
You want a structured approach to trauma processing
-
You are open to building regulation skills alongside processing
If you’re unsure whether EMDR is right for you, we can explore that together during a consultation.
