What Is Transversality?
A different kind of therapy starts here.
At Transversality Counselling, we believe healing doesn’t follow a straight line. It moves — across experiences, identities, relationships, and histories. It weaves. It loops. It crosses. This is what we mean by transversality.
It's a guiding idea that shapes how we work with people navigating trauma, grief, identity, relationships, and change.
What does “transversality” mean?
Transversality is a word borrowed from philosophy. It describes the way things — thoughts, emotions, experiences — can move across boundaries rather than stay fixed in one place.
In therapy, this means:
-
We don’t isolate the mind from the body.
-
We don’t understand the individual separate from their relationships or community.
-
We honour the way your story crosses cultures, languages, and generations.
-
We understand that healing moves in nonlinear ways.

Transversality invites us to work with complexity — to hold space for both/and, not just either/or.
Therapy that meets you where you are
We all carry layers. Our histories, traumas, cultures, roles, desires, boundaries, beliefs. Transversal therapy holds all of that.
-
If you're a survivor of trauma: we meet you with care and pacing.
-
If you're navigating identity: we honour your lived reality, without needing to explain or translate.
-
If you're in a relationship that feels stuck: we explore the spaces between you, not just the conflict itself.
-
If you’re grieving or rebuilding: we follow the threads of meaning, memory, and hope.
Healing, here, is relational — not a solo task, but something that happens in connection.
Transversality in practice
Our approach blends evidence-based methods (like EMDR, EFT, narrative and somatic therapies) with a commitment to social justice, trauma-informed care, and deep listening.
We attend to:
-
The psychological and the social
-
The individual and the collective
-
The past and the present
-
The visible and the unspoken
We welcome the in-between places — where contradictions live, where insight emerges, where healing begins.
Why does this matter?
Many people come to therapy feeling fragmented — broken into parts, pulled in different directions, unsure of how it all fits. At Transversality we offer an invitation:
To reconnect.
To reclaim.
To move across what once felt like borders — between who you were, who you are, and who you’re becoming.
A space for all of you
Whether you’re carrying intergenerational pain, navigating diasporic identity, exploring queerness, rebuilding after harm, sustaining or seeking change that doesn’t erase your complexity — this is a space for all of you.
We believe therapy should not ask you to split yourself apart in order to be seen.
Here, we cross lines — gently, intentionally — toward connection, repair, and possibility.
